Oakmont Gardens’ Residents Enjoy Continued Connections and Active Lifestyles

|

Oakmont Gardens is far from your average active senior living community. Here, residents are freed from the burden of home maintenance to enjoy an innovative blend of comfort, convenience and supportive care, as well as enjoy access to over 140 clubs and exceptional amenities through Oakmont Village Association.

“Boy, that’s a big relief,” said Phil Wigen, a resident of Oakmont Gardens. “I appreciate not having the responsibility of home maintenance anymore. Here, someone is doing the cooking and cleaning so I can enjoy what I love, like hiking, conversation and fellowship over meals.”

Fellow resident Priscilla Abercrombie couldn’t agree more. As a homeowner in Oakmont Village for 27 years, maintaining relationships with neighbors, friends and involvement within her church was important. So much so, that when she was in need of a little assistance with transportation she didn’t consider any other senior living option.

“When it was time to move, I didn’t look any place else. And now that I’m here, I wouldn’t move anywhere else,” said Priscilla.

It’s sentiment that is echoed among many of the residents who have made Oakmont Gardens home over the last 20 years. The service-enriched environment, engaging programming and ease to continue valued connections with neighbors, friends and favorite clubs and activities not only supports whole-person wellness but an active, meaningful lifestyle as well.

According to Gerry Haskell, who recently moved to Oakmont Gardens to be closer to family in San Francisco, Oakmont Gardens’ friendly, inclusive residents and staff made the transition smooth.

“The people here made it easy for me to feel at home,” said Haskell. “Oakmont Gardens is a lovely place with so many things to do. I look forward to getting more involved with the activities offered.”

Jay and Anne Cobb moved from the Monterey Peninsula to Oakmont Village in 2001. At the same time, they moved Anne's Aunt and Uncle into Oakmont Gardens. They immediately became involved in a variety of activities offered within the Oakmont Village Association including Kiwanis, Sons In Retirement, Life Long Learning Classes, P.E.O. Sisterhood, the Oakmont Veterans Parade, and more.

“I have always liked the way Oakmont Gardens operates. In the two and a half months that we have lived here, I’ve been very impressed with managements response to residents’ concerns,” said Jay.

“We have several friends who moved to Oakmont Gardens and they have loved being a part of the community. So when it was time to move from our home, we chose Oakmont Gardens,” said Jay.

“The move to Oakmont Gardens allows us more time to participate in activities, travel, be with family and enjoy this lifestyle,” added Anne.

According to Anne, one of the activities they enjoy most is participating on the Oakmont Lifelong Learning Board and in the courses taught at Oakmont by Santa Rosa Junior College instructors, as well as additional courses offered at Oakmont Gardens.

“The quality of these courses, taught by high-level professors is exceptional,” said Anne.

In addition to access to clubs, courses and other activities, Oakmont Gardens’ residents appreciate the ease of walking to the Oakmont Village swimming pool and fully-equipped fitness center, both just across the street from the community. What’s more, within the Oakmont Gardens community whole-person wellness is supported through a robust enrichment program entitled MBKonnections that includes a variety of exercise classes, walking groups, creative arts and crafts activities, bridge groups, on-site church services and meditation classes and many other social gatherings including happy hours and themed dinners.

Oakmont Gardens residents can select from a variety of one- and two-bedroom floor plans. Included in the monthly rental fee for Independent Living residents are: paid membership to Oakmont Village Association, restaurant-style dining, housekeeping and weekly linen services, scheduled transportation seven days a week, water and trash, emergency alert system, and access to a full calendar of wellness and enrichment programming.

In addition to the choice of one- and two-bedroom floor plan options, Oakmont Gardens’ Assisted Living residents benefit from 24-hour professional staffing care, assistance with activities of daily living, three chef-prepared meals per day, housekeeping and laundry services, emergency alert system, scheduled transportation 7 days a week, coordination of care with physicians and thoughtfully planned enrichment programs focused on the mind and body.

Every time that I visited my dad, I enjoyed myself from the moment I walked in the door. The place is just alive! It was always a pleasure to go in and be greeted by name and say hello to everyone, staff and residents.
