At MBK Senior Living, we believe the heart of our communities lies in the compassion and dedication of our team members. In this Caregiver Spotlight, we’re proud to introduce Jamica Duaso—a Dining Room Supervisor at The Bellettini in Bellevue, Washington, whose warmth, professionalism, and commitment to resident well-being make a daily impact. Whether she’s lending a helping hand, sharing a laugh, or going the extra mile, Jamica exemplifies what it means to care with purpose and heart.
Can you tell us a little about your background and what led you to work here? I am a Tourism Management graduate. I came to the US right after graduation for a hospitality internship in Texas. I fell in love with the hospitality industry and enjoyed the last six years of working for establishments that values excellent customer service. After working in hotels and restaurants, I was excited for an opportunity to work at a senior living. I see it as a refreshing opportunity for me to share my skills and experience.
What is something most people don't know about you? I want to travel the world. I want to experience traditions and cultures, to embrace them and share them with my family and friends. Through these experiences, I hope to gain a deeper understanding of humanity and broaden my perspective on life.
What are some of your hobbies or activities you enjoy outside of work? I love reading, watching movies, and spending time with my dog. I always make sure to have a dedicated “lazy” day each week—usually after a good house cleaning—where I can just relax at home. I’m also a big fan of podcasts, especially interviews with scientists, brilliant thinkers, and CEOs. Hearing their insights and stories really inspires me.
How long have you been with the company and what roles have you held? It's been three months now, and I work hand-in-hand with Mike and Joellen in providing the best service and experience to the residents as the dining room supervisor.
What inspired you to pursue a career in this industry? The fulfillment I feel every time I make someone's day better is priceless. Seeing the same faces every day and having the power to brighten them is what makes the job meaningful.
What do you enjoy most about working here? Everyone strives to make the residents happy. The team is always open to new ideas to make the environment more fun and enjoyable.
Can you share an accomplishment you're particularly proud of? One of my proudest accomplishments is the meaningful connections I’ve built with people. As an immigrant who speaks a completely different language, working in the hospitality industry was initially very challenging. Surprisingly, it came naturally to me. This genuine ease resonated with guests, colleagues, and supervisors alike.
What touches me deeply is that many of my former managers still check in on me from time to time. Knowing that people I look up to continue to value and remember me reaffirms the positive impact I’ve made.
What is a typical day like for you in your role as Dining Room Supervisor? A typical day for me involves ensuring that my team performs at their best, residents are well cared for, and there is clear and effective communication among the management team.
What skills or traits have contributed most to your success? Working in fast-paced hotels and restaurants has trained me to operate as efficiently as possible. One of the most vital skills I’ve mastered is staying calm under pressure. I’ve consistently been the anchor that holds my team together, no matter how busy or demanding the service gets. I strive to work quickly and efficiently while remaining composed and in control.
What do you value most about the company culture? I deeply value a culture that emphasizes community and continuous innovation. What I appreciate about The Bellettini is how it creates an environment where residents can truly enjoy themselves through thoughtfully designed activities that promote learning and social connection.
How do you see yourself contributing to the company's mission or values? I believe that creativity is limitless, and it’s the key to overcoming repetitiveness. Residents often view effort as a sign of loyalty, and when someone puts genuine thought and heart into what they do, it’s evident. That sincerity is something they deeply appreciate.
What does your "reason for being" at work look like? My purpose is to contribute meaningfully to the success of the organization. I take pride in upholding the company’s mission and values, and I strive to reflect them in everything I do.
Do you have any favorite stories of a close relationship you've formed with a resident? One day, a resident came to pick up his lunch but was accidentally given the wrong meal. I immediately went to his room to deliver the correct order. As I entered, he was just opening the box and realizing it wasn’t what he had requested. I set up his correct meal on his walker so he could eat comfortably.
He began expressing how much he appreciated the way I take care of him. Then, he broke down in tears, sharing how exhausted he felt from his chemotherapy. I listened to him for a while and left him with his lunch. That moment reminded me of how powerful even the smallest gesture can be. I promised myself that day to never stop trying to make a difference.
What advice would you give to someone interested in transitioning to senior living? Be ready to fall in love with your job.
