Bustling With Activity – See How Savanna House Lends Itself to Living Well

|

When searching for a senior living community, often what motivates a person's decision is the feeling they get while visiting a community. At Savanna House, you can feel the energy the moment you arrive.

Located in Gilbert, Arizona, Savanna House offers residents and families easy access to shopping, entertainment venues, medical offices, freeways, and more. But what makes Savanna House truly special are the number of community social, educational, and recreational spaces – and the many ways Director of Wellness Kim Wood utilizes them.

Step inside and you’re greeted by a bright, airy lobby and bistro that is adjacent to the front desk. This cheery space invites anyone to sit down and visit with friends and neighbors, precisely why Kim enjoys hosting weekly trivia games and social events there.

"Adding to the room's appeal is what's happening there," said Kim. "Residents and families, who are returning to the community, often spontaneously join in on the games we're playing or sit in to watch."

"I enjoy playing brain teasers and trivia games there as it gets people talking and socializing," added Kim.

Beyond the lobby windows, you'll spy a lushly landscaped courtyard filled with shaded seating areas, a putting green, a puppy park, and a walking path.

"We've hosted carnivals, petting zoos, Mother's Day teas, and even had a singing cowboy on his horse in our courtyard," said Kim. "It's a great outdoor space for residents to soak up the sun, walk their dogs, or enjoy the fresh air."

Through the doors on the far side of the courtyard, you'll find the community's all-day restaurant-style dining room and private dining room. Here, residents enjoy visiting with friends and families over various monthly nutritious menu options. Our signature MBK Cuisine offers Action Stations and themed monthly brunches from our culinary team.

Just down the hall from the dining room is Savanna House's theater, library, and puzzle room. Kim says she enjoys finding different uses for these spaces beyond the apparent routines.

"There is a method to my madness," says Kim. "Who wants to be in the same place for everything? I enjoy breaking up the monotony by moving where we hold activities in the community, and choose places often based on the size of the group attending, how we might need to adapt the activity to meet residents' needs, and what space is going to facilitate best what we're doing."

You'll find Savanna House's memory care community through a separate, secure courtyard. Here, you'll find bright, cozy living spaces and the community's ice cream parlor.

"Our residents love being able to pick up a sweet treat in the ice cream parlor anytime they want," said Cindy Deck, Director of Sales for Savanna House.

Swing around to the front of Savanna House's building, and you'll find a craft room, physical therapy room, and spacious multipurpose room.

"We're fortunate to partner with ALLE, a continuing education provider," said Kim. "We host a wide variety of ALLE classes in our multipurpose room. Whether it's an art history lecture or brushing up on a foreign language, residents enjoy several ways to keep their mind active and engaged."

"Another partner is Rendever, who offers virtual reality experiences for seniors," said Kim. "Our residents enjoy exploring the world, visiting museums, taking hikes, swimming with dolphins, and all without leaving their chairs."

Keeping their mind and body active is vital to living well. That's why many residents enjoy convenient access to Savanna House's therapy room. They can work one-on-one with a trained physical therapist to gain strength, balance, or mobility. Or they can partake in a group class that encourages flexibility and movement that is known to aid physical and mental health.

"There is a good feeling you get when you enter Savanna House," said Cindy. "That feeling is fueled by the people you meet, the service you receive, and the lively activities – there's never a dull moment here."

“You feel a vibe when you enter the building,” said Cindy. “The people who work here are happy and the residents who live here are happy.”

It's What We're Here For

"

Every time that I visited my dad, I enjoyed myself from the moment I walked in the door. The place is just alive! It was always a pleasure to go in and be greeted by name and say hello to everyone, staff and residents.
