Hero. It’s a word that seems to be common place these days. Unlike the cape wearing, high-flying versions we may envision at hearing the word, a real hero is someone who is admired for great or brave acts and fine qualities. So, when we say, “heroes work here,” it’s not cliché, it’s not the latest tagline – it is pure and simple, a fact.
While thousands of people retreated to the safety of their homes throughout the pandemic, more than 3,000 team members across our portfolio of 33 communities courageously worked to calm and care for residents, keep them connected to loved ones, find creative ways to engage and entertain them, and took extraordinary steps to mitigate the effects of a contagious virus.
As part of the essential workforce, MBK team members worked day in and day out to provide services with a smile – even if behind an N95 mask.
Unlike other senior living environments, memory care presents unique challenges to maintaining suggested CDC and Public Health pandemic protocols. Keep in mind that those with dementia or Alzheimer’s cannot be confined to their suite, and they may not remember to wear a mask, stay 6 feet apart from others or wash their hands frequently. As such, our staff is specially trained to:
-
Utilize re-direction techniques to maintain social distancing among residents and staff.
-
Carry hand sanitizer to regularly assist residents with hand hygiene.
-
Encourage residents to put on face masks when outside of their apartment.
-
Stagger small group dining to allow for 6’ between residents when eating.
-
Encourage residents to stay in their apartments by delivering activities to their apartment.
Earlier, our Palisades at Broadmoor Park community was featured on KRDO news in Colorado Springs, Colorado for the work they do to care for and support residents and families impacted by Alzheimer’s and other dementias. Click here to read their story.
The Palisades is one of 18 MBK Senior Living communities offering memory care services that focus on four key areas: physical wellness, environment, enrichment and family involvement. Intertwining residents’ individual life history, preferences, needs and passions throughout this wholistic care approach, helps residents find daily purpose and bridges connections and positive interactions with family.
