The Commons at Dallas Ranch Supports Antioch Homeless With Sock & Mitten Drive

The Commons at Dallas Ranch Supports Antioch Homeless With Sock & Mitten Drive

|

As the weather begins to cool, The Commons at Dallas Ranch spent October collecting socks and mittens to support the area homeless. Approximately 100 pairs of socks and mittens were amassed by the community, along with snacks and water. Residents assembled the goods in gift bags that employees will distribute on the streets of Antioch on Friday, October 29th.

“Socks are always in need for the homeless, especially as it gets colder,” said Melanie McCants, director of sales for The Commons at Dallas Ranch. “With temperatures dipping into the 40s at night, another team member suggested we add mittens to the give-away bags.”

According to McCants, the idea for the drive was born out of the community’s Yoi Shigoto Gives Back program that seeks ways to impact residents, employees, the surrounding community, and hopefully the world through charitable giving and philanthropic projects.

“Research shows that those who participate in charitable giving have a greater sense of purpose and productivity,” said McCants. “Yoi Shigoto Gives Back projects like this drive help residents and team members connect with the community around us.”

The Commons at Dallas Ranch is one of 32 MBK Senior Living communities that hold monthly Yoi Shigoto Gives Back events and fundraisers. The company’s purposeful intent is to positively impact our local communities through selfless endeavors, make a difference, and work together. Over the years, MBK has implemented hundreds of Yoi Shigoto Gives Back initiatives, contributed thousands of dollars and service hours to hundreds of charitable organizations. These projects have touched the lives of veterans, at-risk youth, the homeless, foster children, individuals and families living with cancer and Alzheimer’s, and so much more.

Every time that I visited my dad, I enjoyed myself from the moment I walked in the door. The place is just alive! It was always a pleasure to go in and be greeted by name and say hello to everyone, staff and residents.
