Residents make the most of MBK health & wellness programs

Person-centered. Restorative. Inspiring.

Caring. It’s not just what we do. It’s who we are. One of the many ways we bring that sentiment to life is through our Home2Stay program that provide proactive, person-centered care coordination that enhances resident quality of life. This week, in honor of National Rehabilitation Awareness Week, we’re celebrating the impact our high-quality care program and dedicated caregivers have made in the lives of our residents to ensure they’re able to live their life to the fullest.

The need for rehabilitative services can vary from inpatient care following surgery to weekly physical, occupational or speech therapy to address changes in a seniors’ health and wellness. Whatever the need, MBK Senior Living’s rehabilitative program offers structure, a safe and secure environment, multiple therapies and treatments, and cohesive coordination with residents’ medical providers.

Here are just a few of our residents’ heart-warming and inspiring rehabilitation stories:

  • When resident John North first visited our Northgate Plaza community, he had significant trouble walking. He used a walker and needed to sit down repeatedly during the tour to catch his breath. After moving in, he took full advantage of the special dietary program provided by our culinary team. It wasn’t long before he was able to walk with a cane. As his strength and endurance increased and diet improved, John kept moving toward his goal – to walk freely again. Today, he is free of the cane, and enjoys walking regularly to visit the many friends he’s made within the community.
  • After Ramona DesJarlais had a fall, rehab was necessary, so MBK caregivers set up home health services that included physical therapy. In the weeks to follow, Ramona worked diligently with caregivers and physical therapists to improve her strength and balance to regain her regular gait and prevent future falls. Today, Ramona is back to her normal self – speed walking through the halls of McDowell Village.
  • Carlos Young first joined our Northgate Plaza community as a referral from a rehabilitation center. He could only bear his weight to walk for short distances, and was virtually wheelchair-bound. During the health assessment process, we discovered he was on hospice and required medical equipment to be brought into the studio apartment he chose. With great care and an improved diet at Northgate Plaza, Carlos no longer needed hospice and can now walk with only the aid of a walker. Plus, he was able to move to a larger apartment with his wife, where they are both thriving.

Every rehabilitation story is unique -- just like our residents, and just like the personalized care plans we provide. MBK Senior Living places emphasis on innovative care practices, high-quality programming, and a dedicated and compassionate staff to optimize outcomes and restore residents’ health and wellness. After 30 years of service, we have seen hundreds of residents make incredible progress through rehabilitation to live physically, socially and emotionally enhanced lifestyles.

Every time that I visited my dad, I enjoyed myself from the moment I walked in the door. The place is just alive! It was always a pleasure to go in and be greeted by name and say hello to everyone, staff and residents.
