MBK Cuisine is the perfect recipe. It's just the right mix of choice food selections, comfort food, culinary creativity, and hospitality and customer service. The culmination is what everyone craves – nutritious, expertly prepared, and beautifully presented meals that any foodie would love.
In honor of National Nutrition Month, we're spilling the beans on what goes into MBK Senior Living's signature dining program to ensure our residents' nutritional needs are met, menus ever-evolving, and customer service is top-notch.
"As you age, your needs change, and eating healthy is even more important," said Jon Thomas, National Director of Dining Services for MBK Senior Living. "That's why we start with food that comes from fully vetted, trusted vendors, is freshly cooked, and dietician approved."
"Our culinary teams are food safety certified and trained on multiple aspects of cooking with high-quality ingredients. Plus, every menu item is reviewed by a certified dietician to ensure it is suitable for our population by including more nutrients, fewer calories."
According to Thomas, MBK Cuisine offers well-balanced, seasonal menus – with lots of input from residents.
"We have an active partnership with residents to ensure they get what they need," said Thomas. "There are multiple food-focused resident groups in our communities that provide regular feedback. Plus, if a resident has a family recipe they'd like to see on the menu, we work with our dietician to be certain it meets standards."
"We add resident recipes to the menu regularly – it's part of our person-centered approach to menu creation," added Thomas.
Ensuring that menu selections include the proper nutrients to support seniors' health is a priority. At MBK, that means lots of whole foods that are high in fiber, lean meats, and fresh vegetables and fruits.
"Aging can affect a person's sense of taste and smell, which in turn can change appetites. The body produces less stomach acid, which can affect digestion. Plus, with more sedentary lifestyles, it is important that aging adults get more nutrients and fewer calories," said Thomas. That why we focus on providing delicious, wholesome menu offerings and an enjoyable dining experience to support residents' whole-wellness.
“MBK Cuisine combined with the company’s culture of care and hospitality, provides our residents with memorable dining experiences,” said Thomas.
